National Film Board Treasures Now Online

NFB.ca Launched

News today from the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) that they have launched a spectacular online Screening Room. Here you can watch full-length films, clips and trailers - all free for home viewing.

Enjoy their featured films, new additions, old favourites and playlists just like you did in school and on the venerable CBC just like you did so many years ago. Those people new to this, you are in for a rare and special treat.

The film I have embedded below, Neighbours is one of my earliest and favourite NFB productions memories. Norman McLaren is a Canadian icon in this country's film making history whose groundbreaking efforts continue to influence and enlighten. Be sure to check the date this was made. (Remember this was pre-computer.) Awesome stuff!

I have a funny feeling I'll be living at this site for the next month.

I love Neighbours!

I wish this site had existed while I was on Film school. Although, I probably would have never went to class to watch the docs. ;)

Isn't it great. I have been able to show my son a tonne of things that I've always wanted him to see. (Including Neighbours, my personal all time favourite.) He's a little partial to the Cat Came Back.

Such a great way to breathe life into this amazing art yet again.

Oh the dreaded dandelion. I have never seen neighbours, thanks so much for showing that to me!

The Resident Film Student was thrilled beyond belief with this news from the NFB. I am sure you will run into each other, as you each move into the site.

Nice! Will check this out.

But I especially wanted to thank you for sending me the link to the Coldplay thing =) That was very thoughtful of you. It was too late for me to download it by the time I noticed your comment, but the gesture is deeply appreciated. Thanks dude!

Oooh Slumdog Millionaire! Read the book, freaking loved it. Am dying to watch it now.

Barb - Do you remember watching some of these films from school? I can remember Paddle to the Sea as if it were yesterday. I loved that film. Regrettfully its not on here. Yet.

Such a great site.

BAP - Thanks for the Slumdog advice, I might just have to pick that one up.

Email me and I'll send you the Coldplay track. It's actually a very nice version.
