Kraftwerk Reissues On the Way


Kraftwerk remain arguably the single most important band in the electronic music genre. Their influence on that genre and even contemporary music has been immeasurable, even despite the fact that their physical music product has always been relatively hard to find.

To mitigate this cruel musical injustice a full series of reissued albums are at last set for release, and will be in stores via EMI in October of this year. The series of re-releases have been called 12345678 The Catalogue, and will be available as individual CDs, heavyweight vinyl, and as an eight-CD box set. The following records will be included:

Autobahn (1974), Radio-Activity (1975), Trans Europe Express (1977), The Man Machine (1978), Computer World (1981), Techno Pop (formerly titled Electric Café) (1986), The Mix (1991) and Tour De France Soundtracks (2003).

It’s been quite a year for the band as founding member Florian Schneider left the band in November 2008, apparently intent on pursuing a solo career. As well, the remaining members of the band were invited to open up for Radiohead earlier this year, and have promised new material “soon”. Considering the last time a similar announcement was made a seventeen year gap transpired between albums. Such is the fate of being a fan of this band, we may just have to make due with the bevy of reissues. For now...
